 Biodata
My Job I have been teaching English in Hamburg since 1986. It is a great job with a fabulous amount of variety. In the space of one day I might work with a top manager who needs to brush up his/her already very good English for an important meeting or presentation, and a group of near beginners who suddenly need to learn English because the company's new international boss speaks no German, and almost anything between these two extremes. This variety of interesting and very different people is a main reason why I still have a great enthusiasm for this job. My Interests The most important area of interest in relation to teaching English is news, politics and economics. I follow them closely and have a sceptical opinion about the veracity of statements made by politicians, business experts and the media in general. I try to keep an open, but enquiring mind. I regularly use alternative media sources on the Internet and incorporate any interesting findings into my teaching where appropriate. Another keen interest is travelling. I try to visit one or two different countries each year and observe their geography, culture and business ideas. I have visited over 30 countries all over the world, but particularly in Europe and The Middle East. I am interested in events ranging from Ancient Egypt to recent developments in Eastern Europe. Another interest is reading which fits in well with the previously mentioned activities, but also extends to literature, technical material and good thrillers. Other interests are quite typical: sport, films, good food and wine, and the environment. I try to keep healthy by natural means. Finally, I am a fan of good comedy such as Monty Python.
